February Recap Part 1

Recap #1

Clearly five posts a week was a little over ambitious and my life isn’t interesting enough to support that goal quite yet. We will get there. In the meantime, I think I’m going to try and scale my posts back a bit to a Saturday recap going over my week and then something else during the week about whatever I feel like. Since I slacked off for the entirety of February, I’m going to recap some of the best and brightest things I did–mainly so I don’t forget them. I almost apologize for this post being so long. Feel free to just scroll through the pictures.

  • February 12, 2016 – Adele at The Wiltern

Holy galumbas I can guarantee you that this was one of the best days of my life and February 12 will be an anniversary I cherish forevermore. Thanks to Cassie being ahhhfreakingamazing and being a ticket goddess, she snagged us two tickets for Adele’s pre-Grammy show at the Wiltern in Koreatown. News articles reported that people started lining up at 5am for this shinding, but I can verify those 20 people are crazy. We got there at 4:30 and had excellent spots.

For those of you who don’t know, the WIltern is an 84-year-old theater in the heart of Koreatown. Originally named the Pellisier building, the Wiltern was home to the Warner Theater, a first-run movie theater for Warner Bros. Only two years after its open, the theater was closed because of the depression, and there the theater sat for over 20 years until it was bought in 1956. After years of struggling to make it as a movie theater and a threat to demolish the lot, the historic building was bought and refurbished as a performing arts center – reopening its doors in 1985.

I could go on for hours about how amazing it was having the opportunity to see one of today’s greatest musicians with only 2000 other people (including Jennifer Lawrence, Tom Hanks, etc…) but I’ll spare you. Instead I’ll give you two pictures from us waiting in line and a recording of my favorite song from 25 that someone else did a better job at capturing than me. (Thanks Trendski, you did great. And if anyone is interested they uploaded a couple other songs from the show as well.)

  • February 15, 2016 – Hiking Eaton Canyon

A few days after Adele, we were feeling adventurous and decided to go for a hike in the Pasadena area.  Cassie, her roommate Lily, and friend Connor invited me along  after I had completely messed up my work schedule and went from thinking I was going to be inside at work all day to not having work until much later in the night, so I was happy to get out and explore a bit.

After looking at a couple different options (one was vetoed because it was in the desert and it was 90 degrees out and the other’s trailhead could not be found) we wound up at Eaton Canyon in Altadena. True to our style – the last time Cassie and I went hiking  we wound up Ubering back to the car after not choosing the loop option – we managed to go in the complete opposite direction of the waterfall, and hike up some nice, desert-y, red cliffs. While not quite what we were going for, the view was absolutely killer.

We only hiked up for about a half an hour before deciding to turn around. The trail didn’t have much coverage and the combination of noon sun and 90 degree weather wasn’t forgiving. Back at the starting point we took a couple of group pics, checked out a little baby waterfall and wading pool, then made our way back to the car and lunch.

The Crew and my delicious salad.
